Vizio TV Won’t Connect to WiFi (Do THIS First!)

August 31, 2022 by Chris Godwin

The consumer electronics produced by the American business Vizio are televisions and soundbars.

The company is well known for its new internet-connected smart TV sets. While their cheaper smart TVs use LED displays with Full HD resolutions, their top-of-the-line Vizio models employ OLED displays and have 4K resolutions.

You’ll need an internet connection once you purchase a Vizio smart TV to use all of its capabilities.

The smart TV can connect wirelessly to your home WiFi network if you already have one, enabling you to use your preferred streaming services.

The manufacturer is now catching up with current network technologies, as with many other characteristics.

Is it impossible for you to connect your Vizio Smart TV to a brand-new 5GHz WiFi router? Is everything needed to make that connection available, or is there still a chance that anything will obstruct it?

Here are a few tests to determine why your Vizio TV won’t connect to WiFi.

Contents

Vizio TV won’t connect to WiFi

You must reset it if your Vizio TV won’t connect to WiFi. Wait 60 full seconds after unplugging your TV. Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds with the TV unplugged. Reconnect your Vizio TV’s power after the 60 seconds have passed, and it should connect.

Power Cycle Router

Cause- Although restarting your router won’t permanently increase your Internet speed. It can, in some ways, make it faster. In reality, WiFi interference won’t slow down your internet connection, but it can significantly restrict the bandwidth going to and from your laptop and other wireless devices.

Solution – To wirelessly transmit its internet to devices logged onto the Network, your ISP’s internet modem is attached to a WiFi router.

It is an important piece of machinery that needs to be maintained in good condition through periodic refreshes or carefully controlled processing.

Rebooting your router can fix issues and restore devices’ WiFi network connections. Always start there when troubleshooting wireless internet problems that could be caused by a faulty connection to your internet modem.

Your router’s indicator lights should let you know if there is a disconnect, which can also let you know if there is an issue with the internet.

Unplug your router from its power supply for around 30 seconds to perform a power cycle. Reconnect it after that, and it should start up immediately and start to expand the WiFi network.

If you believe that your internet modem is experiencing connectivity troubles with your ISP, you are welcome to simultaneously power cycle it.

You unplug your modem and router simultaneously, wait 30 seconds, and then plug them back in. Before reconnecting the router, give the modem a chance to fully boot up.

Power cycling can help free your television of bugs and memory lag that may be the root of WiFi connectivity troubles if the issue is not with your router.

If the TV uses a lot of electricity during this operation, you will need to be more cautious.

  • Switch the TV off.
  • Remove the TV’s power cord from the outlet.
  • Hold the power button on the side of your TV for around five seconds.
  • Reconnect the TV’s power cord and turn it back on manually.

Unplug the Vizio TV from the wall

Cause- This helps to drain any remaining power in the TV and allows it to soft Reset itself. This is not the same as simply turning the remote on and off!

Solution – While it may seem simple, removing your Vizio TV from the wall socket is the most typical technique to restore WiFi functionality.

The goal here is to wait the entire 60 seconds. Have some patience and wait at least a minute before plugging it back in.

Find and hold the power button on your Vizio TV for 30 seconds while it is unplugged. Check that you’re holding the power button on your TV, not the remote!

When you plug the TV back in after 60 seconds, it should power back up without issue.

Unplug Vizio TV from the wall

While this remedy should work in roughly 70% of cases, the remaining 30% may be more difficult. If you’re still having difficulties connecting your Vizio TV to the internet, try the solutions listed below.

Check the Network type

Cause- Different types of networks are required to assist those residing in various ranges.

Solution – If a brief power cycle of your Vizio TV didn’t solve the problem, the next step is to determine what type of WiFi network you’re attempting to connect to.

If you are attempting to connect to a Guest network or a shared network, such as a college dorm or hotel, or any network that requires a login and password, you may need to contact the Network Administer to get your TV Connected.

These networks typically require a login, and because Vizio TVs lack a browser, the Network Administrator may request information from your TV.

The information required by the Network Administrator can be retrieved by pressing Menu on your Vizio remote, then Admin & Privacy, then System Information.

Configure the DHCP Settings in Vizio TV

Cause- When a computer is connected to the Network, Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) automatically configures the required parameters. You can use it from any participating UR location to connect your PC to the University network more quickly.

Solution – Among other software elements, the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol, or DHCP, controls how an internet network’s IP address is distributed to devices connected to the Network. DHCP servers are routers.

Moving on to more complex internet maintenance techniques, setting up the DHCP settings might help your smart TV and network connection.

  • Your TV remote’s Menu button should be pressed before selecting Network.
  • Go to Manual Setup, and click.
  • The Manual Setup page’s first setting is the DHCP setting. Deactivate it by turning it Off, then turn it back On. Certainly activate it if it is currently off.

Configure the DHCP Settings in Vizio TV

Manual Setup also enables you to register networks that might not instantly appear on your Network list. If you have the detailed network information required, try that.

Change WiFi Password

Cause- Change the wireless channel on your router to communicate on a different frequency to avoid interference if your electrical equipment or your neighbor’s Network is slowing down your home network and internet connection.

Solution – You should always use a password to secure your WiFi network, which routers include by default.

By extension, you ought to be able to maintain that password on your own. Network passwords are sometimes written on router sides along with other useful information.

You won’t be able to log a device onto your secure Network if you can’t recall or locate your WiFi password.

It shouldn’t take internet connectivity issues with your smart TV to persuade you to update a compromised or, worse, a forgotten WiFi password.

  • Open a web browser on a device that has internet access. If it is not connected to WiFi, connect it to your internet modem directly with an Ethernet Cable.
  • Enter the router’s IP address into the address bar of your browser. If you don’t have that information, contact your ISP for help or reset the router to factory settings by pushing the router’s mysterious reset button for 30 seconds with a pen. After that, look up and enter the router’s default IP address.
  • Enter the router’s Username and Password to log in. If they are not known, you may need to reset the router, then enter the default username “admin” and the router model’s default, more specific password.
  • On the next page, navigate to the Wireless section, which is labeled “Wireless” or “Wireless Settings/Setup.”
  • Make a new password for yourself.
  • Configure the security encryption to WEP, WPA, or WPA2.
  • Settings should be saved.

When you change your WiFi network, it logs out any devices that were previously connected to the Network. If you want to connect to the Network, you will need to reconnect all of them, including your smart TV.

Switch to 2GHz Frequency

Cause- The 2.4 GHz band’s longer waves are better suited for greater distances for transmission through walls and other solid objects.

Solution – If your Vizio Smart TV is incompatible with 5GHz or 5g frequencies, don’t rush out to replace it with a newer model or a rival.

Routers with 5GHz capability should also offer a dual-band option that allows you to switch to a 2.4GHz channel.

In terms of speed and performance, the 2.4GHz network frequency is inferior to the 5GHz network frequency, but it has a greater connectivity range.

Switch to 2GHz Frequency

Changing the frequency channel on your router involves changing the network output to all devices, so be prepared to accept speeds less than 5GHz if you have a device that requires a lower frequency.

The device’s manufacturer determines the procedure for changing the frequency channel. However, the universal initial step in that process is to visit the router via a web browser.

Follow the previous directions for changing your WiFi password, then search for how to change the frequency channel from there.

If your Vizio Smart TV cannot connect to a WiFi network even at 2.4GHz, the device will simply not connect. Before exploring another technique for connecting the device to the internet, exhaust the aforementioned router troubleshoots.

Use Ethernet Cable

Cause- Using Ethernet is a desirable option for streaming video or playing games because of its consistent dependability. Additionally, a connected connection often has a better bandwidth. Faster connections and no interference from other smart devices are two benefits of more bandwidth.

Solution – An Ethernet cable can connect a device directly to an internet source, such as a modem.

Though cable internet access restricts a connected device’s mobility, it is often much faster than WiFi and can avoid WiFi passwords and network frequency incompatibilities.

On the other hand, Vizio has only recently made Ethernet connectors standard on their televisions.

If your Smart TV is so old that it lacks this feature, an Ethernet adapter can connect an Ethernet cable to the set’s USB port, which serves as a potential gateway via which a TV can access the internet.

  • Connect the Ethernet cable to the TV’s Ethernet port or an adapter inserted into the TV’s Ethernet port.
  • On the remote, press the Menu button.
  • Navigate to Network and then pick “Wired Network.”

Connect Vizio TV and Router with an Ethernet Cable

A wired connection is a quick and secure way to connect your Vizio Smart TV to the internet, but it might be cumbersome.

If you feel the urge to connect to WiFi, resets may be necessary to wipe away issues that are hindering this.

Reset the Router

Cause- One of your first steps in troubleshooting in a residential or consumer environment should be to reboot the router. This can resolve a variety of Internet connectivity problems, from slow wireless connections to no Internet connectivity. Rebooting the router on occasion is smart security practice as well.

Solution – Resetting your router to factory defaults is a powerful way to removing faulty configurations or insufficient processors.

It logs out all Wi-Fi-connected devices, removes router configurations, and removes custom settings such as the Wi-login, Fi’s password, and security.

If you need to reset your router, seek advice from the manufacturer or your ISP.

As previously stated, you can reset the router by pressing a pin against the device’s concealed reset button for around 30 seconds.

If you believe your TV is to blame for a significant fault or compatibility issue that stops it from connecting to the internet, it must be reset to factory settings. This will also reset all TV settings, so proceed with caution.

  • On the remote, press the Menu button.
  • Choose System.
  • Choose Reset & Admin.
  • Choose “Reset TV to Factory Defaults.”
  • To authenticate the user’s identity, enter the PIN. If no personalized PIN has been set, the default Password is 0000.
  • Choose Reset.
  • Allow the TV to reset before turning it off. When you turn it back on, it will be in setup mode.

ISP Outage

Cause- ISPs provide consumers with access to networks that are equipped with the necessary hardware, allowing them to set up Internet connectivity.

Solution – If your Vizio TV still won’t connect to WiFi after all, I’d check to see if your Internet Service Provider is down.

While this does not happen very often, it is a distinct possibility. You can also check other smart devices, such as your smartphone or laptop, to see whether the internet is down.

All you can do in this instance is wait for the servers to come back online.

If you follow your ISP (such as Xfinity) on social media, such as Twitter, they may notify their followers when the internet will be restored. You can also look for information on websites like Downdetector.

Update Vizio TV Firmware

Cause- You can access the newest features and solve specific issues by updating the TV’s firmware.

Solution – If your Vizio tv still won’t connect to 5Ghz WiFi after you’ve tried everything, you should try updating the firmware on your Vizio Tv. It’s not a problem if you don’t know what firmware is.

Firmware serves as a link between software and hardware. Firmware is the software that connects your hardware device to the operating system. You may jailbreak your Vizio TV to get more out of it.

The firmware, for example, is what connects your Vizio television to the internal Vizio software. Updating it may resolve the issues that were creating the problem in the first place.

These updates also include graphic drive updates, so you won’t experience any unexpected visual issues. Read the steps below to perform this type of upgrade.

To begin, turn on your television and connect to Internet Using an Ethernet cable. After that, proceed with the steps below.

Take your television remote and navigate to the Menu area. This is only to activate the smart hub. Once here, click on Settings and check the version of your television.

Update your Vizio TV

Check for New updates, then click Update. After you’ve done this, the update file should start downloading. Follow the on-screen directions to install the actual Update and test your WiFi.

Factory reset Vizio TV

Cause- All user settings in the TV, including the GoogleTM account, apps, channels, camera device data, parental lock, and wireless network settings, will be deleted after performing a factory data reset.

Notes: After performing a factory reset, you can restore some of the data from your apps by syncing them with your Google account.

Solution – If nothing else has worked, it’s time to perform a full factory reset.

When the TV is turned on, press the Menu button.

There should be a “System” option in the Menu; select it.

Then look for “Reset & Admin” and “Reset TV to Factory Defaults.” Before resetting the Vizio TV, it may prompt you for a code. If it does, the default code is 0000, which is four zeros.

Factory reset your Vizio TV

This will essentially return your Vizio TV to the settings it had on the day you bought it.

You’ll most likely have to reenter your WiFi Network name and password, but hopefully, everything is back to normal now!

Factory reset Vizio TV without remote

If you don’t have access to your TV’s remote for some reason, you can still factory reset your Vizio TV.

To do so, locate the power button on your television. Depending on the model, this may be located on the right, left, or very bottom of the device.

With the TV turned on, simultaneously press and hold the volume down and INPUT buttons. Your TV will prompt you to press and hold the input button after a few seconds.

For at least 10 seconds, press and hold the input button.

Factory reset Vizio TV without remote

This will turn off the TV, reboot it, and perform a factory reset. The reboot and reset procedure can take up to a minute.
